A cat café could be coming to Hobson Plaza in Woodridge if the village's Plan Commission approves a special use permit at its Monday, Nov. 2, meeting.
The commission will hold a public hearing on an application by Alina Sziler for a Pet Care Services Special Use to operate a cat café at 3046-3054 Hobson Road, according to a public hearing notice published Oct. 18 in the Daily Herald. The property sits west of the Hobson Road and Woodridge Drive intersection in the Hobson Plaza Shopping Mall. The property owner is listed as Hobson BGOG, LLC.
The business, called Luxe Purr Lounge, would occupy about 5,000 square feet and house 25 to 30 cats, What Now Chicago reported Oct. 5. Sziler, who managed a pet parlor in the area, told What Now Chicago she hopes to open in February.
Luxe Purr Lounge said on Instagram Oct. 17 that the lease has been signed and neighborhood notices have been mailed. The post noted that special use approval from the village is the next milestone and that nothing has been fully approved.
The commission will also consider a recommendation for a stormwater study along Dunham Road, according to the village's Oct. 30 E-News. The E-News did not detail the scope of the study or what prompted it.
The village posted a localized flooding alert on its official Facebook page on July 4 after heavy rainfall left standing water on several streets. Public Works crews were dispatched to clear stormwater inlets, the post said. Whether that flooding is connected to the Dunham Road study item is not stated in available village records.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Werch Board Room at Woodridge Village Hall, 5 Plaza Drive. Plan Commission Chair Jeff Cortez will preside. Residents who want to weigh in on the cat café application can speak at the hearing or submit written comments to the village's Planning Division.
