Four candidates filed for three open Downers Grove Village Commissioner seats before the Oct. 26 deadline, setting up the village's first contested commissioner race alongside an already-established mayoral contest.

Incumbents Mike Davenport and Leslie Sadowski-Fugitt are among the four filers, Patch reported. The names of the other two candidates have not been confirmed in public records reviewed for this report.

Three commissioner seats are on the April 6, 2027, consolidated election ballot, according to the Village of Downers Grove. Candidates needed at least 94 petition signatures to qualify.

The filing window ran from Oct. 19 through Oct. 26 at the Village Clerk's office at the Civic Center, 850 Curtiss St.

Commissioner Martin Tully does not plan to seek reelection to his council seat, Shaw Local reported. Tully, who served as mayor before Bob Barnett, will begin a career in real estate in addition to practicing law, according to our Oct. 28 coverage.

The commissioner race joins a two-person mayoral contest. DuPage County Board member Brian Krajewski, 63, is challenging Village Commissioner Chris Gilmartin, 54, to succeed Mayor Barnett, who cannot seek another term because of the village's term limits.

Krajewski served as Downers Grove mayor from 1999 to 2007. Gilmartin, a 21-year Downers Grove resident who founded a digital marketing company, has served on the Village Council since 2021 and won reelection in 2025.

Because fewer than five candidates filed for mayor and fewer than 13 filed for commissioner, no primary election will be needed. The village had set Feb. 23, 2027, as a potential primary date if those thresholds were crossed.

All six candidates will appear on the April 6, 2027, ballot.
