The Westmont Police Department is taking registrations for its annual golf outing benefiting Special Olympics Illinois, set for Sept. 18 at Village Greens of Woodridge, according to a village announcement.

Registration opens at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start at 11 a.m. at the course, located at 1575 75th St. in Woodridge. Participants are encouraged to sign up as a foursome. Lunch, dinner and refreshments are included.

"This has become a very popular annual event," said Sgt. Tim Radtke, who is coordinating this year's outing. "We are proud to coordinate this fundraiser on behalf of Special Olympics Illinois."

Radtke encouraged residents who cannot golf to consider sponsoring a hole or a foursome. Registration and sponsorship details are available on the WPD Golf Fundraiser webpage. Pricing information is listed on the signup page.

Part of a broader push

The golf outing is one of several fundraisers the Westmont Police Department runs each year through the Law Enforcement Torch Run, the statewide program through which local police departments raise money for Special Olympics athletes. The Illinois LETR has raised more than $70 million for Special Olympics Illinois since 1986, according to the organization's website, with officers across the state contributing roughly $5 million annually.

The program's most recent total was $5.9 million raised in 2025, presented to Special Olympics Illinois at the 2026 Summer Games Opening Ceremony.

Locally, the Westmont Police Department has stayed busy with the cause. Officers held their annual Cop on a Rooftop fundraiser at Dunkin' locations in Westmont on May 15, and the department will host a paper shred event on Oct. 3 at the Westmont Police-Fire Facility, 500 N. Cass Ave. That event runs 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is free for residents bringing documents to destroy.
