Westmont High School's marching band added eight newcomers for the fall, pushing the Westmont Warrior Marching Regiment's roster to 39 members as the group prepares a new competition show.

The regiment will debut "Every Which Way," a show composed by Gary P. Gilroy and choreographed by Ryan Schlieper, according to The Shield, the school's student newspaper. Gilroy is an ASCAP Award-winning composer whose marching band arrangements have been performed worldwide through his company, GPG Publications.

Senior Maria Piskyuleva leads the regiment as drum major. Color guard captain Daria Egorova and co-captain Capri Cataldo round out the student leadership.

Piskyuleva told The Shield she sees the drum major role as a chance to shape the program beyond her own time at Westmont. "I hope to use this position to make a positive difference in the music department as a whole and help strengthen the sense of community within it," she said.

Egorova said she is excited about the choreography in the new show, describing it as heavy on movement and flag work. She said she looks forward to mentoring the new color guard members at competitions and football games.

The regiment also serves as the pep band at all Westmont High School football games.

The Shield listed four competition dates, all at California venues: Oct. 3 at Feste Del Mar at Del Mar High School, Nov. 7 at Hollister High School, a benefit show at Leigh High School and the Western Band Association (WBA) Regional Championships on Nov. 14 at James Logan High School in Union City, California. The WBA is a nonprofit that organizes high school marching band competitions across California, Arizona and Nevada.
