Woodridge police wrote 84 tickets and arrested three people during a traffic safety campaign that stretched from Aug. 14 through Sept. 7.

Two of the arrests were for driving on a suspended license and one was for driving without a license, Deputy Chief Dennis Brinkman told Patch.

Of the 84 citations, 31 were for seatbelt or child safety seat violations, according to a Woodridge Police Department update. The department did not release a breakdown of the remaining 53 tickets by violation type.

"Through the Labor Day safety campaign, we helped to make our roads safer and spread the word about the risks of impaired driving," Police Chief Tom Stefanson said.

The three-week effort was part of a trio of statewide initiatives: "Click It or Ticket," targeting seatbelt compliance; "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over," focused on alcohol-impaired driving; and "Drive High, Get a DUI," aimed at drug-impaired drivers. More than 200 law enforcement agencies across Illinois participated, according to Tech Times. The Illinois Department of Transportation funded the campaigns with federal highway safety dollars.

None of the three Woodridge arrests involved impaired-driving charges.

When the department announced the campaign on Aug. 12, Patch reported that Stefanson said officers would patrol with zero tolerance for impaired driving to protect Woodridge residents. The final results showed the arrests stemmed from license violations instead. Whether officers issued any impaired-driving citations among the remaining 53 tickets is unclear from the department's public update.

Woodridge's numbers outpaced the DuPage County Sheriff's Office, which issued more than 60 tickets and made one arrest for aggravated speeding during the same enforcement window, according to Patch.
