Former Downers Grove Mayor Brian Krajewski will run for the village's top office again, nearly 20 years after he last held the seat.

Krajewski, 63, confirmed his candidacy Friday, Oct. 23, as first reported by Shaw Local. He will face Village Commissioner Chris Gilmartin, 54, who announced his own bid the day before. As we reported Oct. 23, Gilmartin was the first declared candidate in the race.

Mayor Bob Barnett cannot seek another term because of the village's term limits. The election is April 6, 2027.

Krajewski served as Downers Grove mayor from 1999 to 2007, when he lost a reelection bid to Ron Sandack. He currently sits on the DuPage County Board as its second most senior member and is running for reelection to that two-year seat. If he wins the mayoral race, Krajewski said he would resign from the county board, and DuPage County Board Chairwoman Deb Conroy would appoint his Republican successor, according to Shaw Local's reporting.

Beyond his county board work, Krajewski chairs the Downers Grove Township Republican Committeeman's Organization and is a member of the DuPage County Republican Central Committee. He also served on the DuPage Water Commission board. He is an attorney and CPA.

Shaw Local's report did not include a statement from Krajewski on why he is running or what his priorities would be as mayor.

Gilmartin, the founder and CEO of a digital marketing company, has pointed to the Village Council's record during his five years as commissioner. He cited four consecutive balanced budgets, a AAA bond rating from S&P and the construction of the new Civic Center without raising property taxes, according to Shaw Local.

In his announcement, Gilmartin wrote that his work on the Economic Development Corporation "helped bring Lurie Children's Hospital, Rivian Motors and more than $72 million in private investment into our village over the last few years."

Gilmartin wrote in a statement shared on social media that he wants to "keep this momentum going, continuing to protect our finances, invest in streets, water and stormwater systems, help local businesses grow," according to Patch.

Candidates must file statements of candidacy and nominating petitions with the Village Clerk at the Civic Center, 850 Curtiss St., by 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, according to the village's candidate information page. Each candidate needs at least 94 signatures. If more than four candidates file for mayor, DuPage County will hold a primary election on Feb. 23, 2027.
