A man and a woman stole saw blades and batteries from the Home Depot at 2000 Butterfield Rd. in Downers Grove on Sunday, Oct. 18, then threatened an employee before fleeing, according to a Downers Grove Police Department report.
The pair entered the store around 11 a.m. and were inside for less than four minutes, Patch reported, citing the police report. The woman carried a large purse while the man selected high-priced items and placed them inside it. Police described the operation as quick and coordinated.
The man left the store first. The woman stayed behind.
An employee approached the woman, according to the police report. The man then came back into the store, took the purse from the woman and threatened to "knock out" the employee if they tried to touch the woman or her purse, the report said.
The two then left together and got into an older model gray Nissan. The vehicle had out-of-state plates and no front license plate, police said.
Employees at the Butterfield Road store reported the theft to Downers Grove police on Monday, Oct. 19, one day after the incident occurred. The police report does not include a dollar value for the stolen merchandise, and the source of the out-of-state plates has not been disclosed.
The Downers Grove Police Department is asking anyone with information about the theft to call 630-434-5600.
