A shooting at a Crest Hill park Saturday, Aug. 29, killed Woodridge resident Kamarion L. Coleman, 18, and wounded three other teenagers.

Crest Hill police responded to the 1900 block of Willow Court around 11 p.m. after reports of shots fired, The Herald-News reported. Officers found four teens had been shot at what police described as a gathering in the park.

Will County Coroner Laurie Summers said Coleman was pronounced dead at 4 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, in the 1900 block of Willow Court. Summers called the death an apparent homicide. An autopsy was conducted Sunday, and the final cause and manner of death will be determined after autopsy, police and toxicological reports are complete, according to the coroner's office.

Three other teens were wounded. An 18-year-old from Joliet was airlifted to a Chicago hospital in critical condition. A 15-year-old and a 16-year-old sustained injuries that were not life-threatening, according to the Crest Hill Police Department.

No arrests have been announced.

Crest Hill Police Chief Ed Clark said the shooting was not a random act of violence, connecting it to the park gathering where the teens had been present. Patch reported Clark's statement on the investigation.

"Initial information indicates the incident was tied to a gathering in the park and not random," Clark said.

Officers secured the crime scene, and the Will/Grundy Major Crimes Task Force was called in to assist. The task force is now leading the investigation, which remained active as of Monday, Aug. 31. No suspects have been publicly identified.

Crest Hill is about 25 miles southwest of Woodridge in Will County. Coleman is the first Woodridge resident identified as a victim in the shooting.
