Woodridge police officers are wearing bright pink badge patches on their uniforms throughout October in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
A department member whose family has been affected by breast cancer brought the idea to Chief of Police Tom Stefanson, who approved it and opened it to all village employees, Patch reported.
Other officers began connecting the patches to their own experiences, wearing them in honor of loved ones who are battling or have battled the disease, the department said. Stefanson said in a statement that the color carries deeper meaning for the people who wear it.
Village employees can also pick up a patch to keep.
The patches will be worn through the end of October.
