Downers Grove North football carries a perfect 6-0 record into its Week 7 road game at York in Elmhurst.

DGN is 4-0 in West Suburban Silver play after beating Oak Park-River Forest 41-0 on Friday, Sept. 25. York dropped to 3-3 overall after falling 24-21 to Hinsdale Central the same night, according to Shaw Local's Friday Night Drive.

The blowout over OPRF vaulted DGN from No. 10 to No. 6 in the Chicago Sun-Times Super 25 rankings, which noted the Trojans "have been underrated in the Super 25 so far this season." DGN's six opponents have a combined record of 21-15. The Trojans were also ranked No. 4 in Class 7A in the Illinois Media statewide poll heading into Week 6.

Georgas powers the offense

Senior running back Grant Georgas has emerged as the Trojans' most productive weapon. Against OPRF, Georgas rushed for 250 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries, ripping off scoring runs of 11, 46 and 64 yards. Kevin Jay added a 1-yard touchdown run, and quarterback Joey Goodwin connected with Philip Moawad on a 17-yard scoring pass.

DGN's offense has rotated Jay and Goodwin at quarterback throughout the season, with Georgas handling the bulk of the rushing load. Jay, a senior, has also contributed as a runner. In the Week 2 win over Downers Grove South, Jay rushed for 121 yards and two touchdowns in a 45-7 victory that extended DGN's rivalry winning streak to 12 games.

Defense sets the tone

Baker Glomb leads the team in tackles.

The Trojans' defense allowed only 33 points through its first five games and posted three shutouts in its first four Silver conference contests, including the 41-0 blanking of OPRF. DGN was ranked No. 4 in Class 7A in the Illinois Media poll heading into Week 6, and the defense is a major reason why.

York on a skid

The Dukes enter Week 7 on a two-game losing streak. In their Week 5 loss to OPRF, York committed 10 penalties for 80 yards and threw three interceptions. Quarterback Zack Assaad threw for 167 yards and two touchdowns in that game, both to receiver Chris Winton, who finished with nine catches for 82 yards. York then fell to Hinsdale Central in Week 6.

Playoff stakes

The stakes extend beyond the conference race. Under the 2026 IHSA expanded playoff format, Class 7A seeds its 48-team bracket 1 through 48, with the top 16 seeds earning first-round byes. A strong finish to the regular season could position DGN for one of those byes. The Trojans reached the 7A semifinals in 2025 with a 10-3 record.
