Woodridge Public Library opens its fall season with three events in one week, including a voter registration drive and a virtual talk on artificial intelligence.

The library at 3 Plaza Dr. will host a voter registration day Tuesday, Sept. 15, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the lobby. The event is open to teens and adults. The library's listing targets residents turning 18 by Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Two days earlier, on Sunday, Sept. 13, Chicago-area singer and pianist Lucas Levon performs from 2 to 3 p.m. in the library's Off-the-Lobby space. The library says Levon is returning by popular demand. A Berklee College of Music alumnus, he is known for piano-driven covers of Elton John, Billy Joel and the Beatles and performs regularly at Big Shot Piano Lounge in Chicago. Registration is open for the event, which is listed for adults and seniors.

The week wraps with a free virtual talk Thursday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. featuring Karen Hao, author of the New York Times bestseller Empire of AI: Dreams and Nightmares in Sam Altman's OpenAI. The Zoom event is part of the Illinois Libraries Present program and is open to the public, though registration is required.

The program describes Hao as the first journalist to profile OpenAI. She previously covered American and Chinese tech companies for The Wall Street Journal and served as senior editor for AI at MIT Technology Review.

Time magazine named her one of the most influential people in AI. Her book won the 2025 National Book Critics Circle Award for Nonfiction and the 2026 New York Public Library Helen Bernstein Book Award for Excellence in Journalism. Reanna Esmail, lead librarian for instruction at Cornell University, will moderate the conversation.

Fall program registration opened Saturday, Aug. 15, at 9 a.m. for September, October and November events. Additional fall highlights on the library's calendar include a virtual talk with Geoffrey Baer on Tuesday, Oct. 20, a virtual menopause discussion Thursday, Oct. 22, and a virtual conversation with author Dr. Eve L. Ewing on Thursday, Nov. 12.
