Residents in Westmont and Woodridge can pick up a free pink light bulb in October after scheduling or completing a mammogram at two local UChicago Medicine AdventHealth imaging centers.

The health system's "Light Your Porch Pink" campaign, first reported by Shaw Local, ties the giveaway to Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The campaign encourages participants to light their porches pink during October to promote breast cancer screenings.

Bulbs are available while supplies last at two area locations:

  • AdventHealth Imaging Westmont, 6311 S. Cass Ave., Westmont
  • AdventHealth Imaging Woodridge, 2363 63rd St., Suite 102, Woodridge

Four other locations in Hinsdale, Bolingbrook, Plainfield and Glendale Heights are also participating.

All six breast imaging sites hold a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence designation from the American College of Radiology. The designation recognizes accreditation in mammography, breast MRI, breast ultrasound and stereotactic breast biopsy.

The campaign page recommends annual mammograms starting at age 40. AdventHealth said on that page that early detection remains the strongest defense against breast cancer and that the campaign aims to make routine screenings easier.

No end date for the giveaway has been announced.
