Westmont's school board holds its first regular meeting of the 2026–2027 school year Tuesday, Aug. 18, one day before students return to classrooms across Community Unit School District 201.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at Westmont Village Hall, 31 W. Quincy St. Residents can also watch via livestream; a link is posted on the district's website.

How to speak at the meeting

Residents who want to address the board during public comment must fill out a card at the sign-in table and hand it to the board president before the meeting starts. Speakers must state their name and are limited to five minutes each. Total public comment time is capped at 30 minutes, with no single subject allowed more than 20 minutes.

The district noted in its Aug. 15 announcement that public comment is not a dialogue session. The board will consider comments in its decisions, but questions requiring a follow-up response will be handled afterward by the board president or superintendent.

$68 million referendum on fall ballot

The meeting comes as the district prepares for a busy fall. At its July 21 meeting, the CUSD 201 board unanimously voted to place a $68 million school building bond referendum on the Nov. 3 ballot. The money would fund construction of a new elementary school.

School year timeline

Monday, Aug. 17, is a Teacher Institute Day with no student attendance. Students return Wednesday, Aug. 19, making Tuesday's board meeting the last piece of district business before the first day of school.
