Westmont homeowners can set out unlimited bags of leaves for free pickup starting Monday, Nov. 2.

The village's annual Free Leaf Collection Program runs through Saturday, Nov. 28, according to a public notice issued Oct. 6. Residents can place kraft paper bags filled with leaves at the curb without buying a $3.68 yard waste sticker. The program covers single-family homes only, not commercial or multi-unit properties.

Only leaves qualify. Grass clippings and other yard waste still need a separate kraft bag with a sticker attached. Flood Bros., the village's waste hauler, handles the collection.

The village notice also asks residents to clear fallen leaves from gutters and curbs before they clog storm drains. Decomposing leaves release phosphorus, which fuels algae blooms and reduces oxygen for fish in local waterways, the notice states. Westmont recommends composting leaves, mowing over them to feed the lawn, bagging them for pickup, and telling landscapers not to blow debris into the street.

The broader Flood Bros. yard waste program runs through Friday, Dec. 11. Residents can reach Flood Bros. at 630-261-0400.
