Westmont's Board of Fire and Police Commissioners will meet at 8 a.m. Saturday, August 15, at the Westmont Police Department, 500 N. Cass Ave. The session breaks from the board's standard schedule of the third Tuesday of each month at 2 p.m.
The village calendar lists an agenda available through the CivicClerk portal, though specific items for the August 15 session have not been publicly detailed. A separate regular meeting also appears on the village calendar for Tuesday, August 18, at 2 p.m. The village has not publicly explained the reason for the additional Saturday session.
The three-member board, chaired by Thomas Mulhearn with commissioners Stella Qualizza and Brian Sible, oversees hiring, discipline, and promotions for Westmont's uniformed police and fire departments.
Recent meetings show the board deep in hiring decisions.
At a special meeting on Friday, July 10, the board voted 3-0 against extending a conditional employment offer to a police officer candidate and postponed a decision on another candidate pending receipt of medical records. The same session saw three candidates for the Fire Department Division Chief of Training position disqualified for missing a July 5 filing deadline, and a fourth candidate found ineligible. That meeting ran three hours and included participation via Zoom from IOS Solutions, a testing and assessment firm, along with Fire Chief Riley and other village staff.
At a special meeting on Saturday, June 13, the board extended a conditional employment offer to a probationary patrol officer candidate, pending a medical examination and psychological evaluation. The board also approved a $225 invoice from Conrad Polygraph for a candidate background examination.
Neither recent special meeting drew any public attendees.
The board's standard format includes a public comment period. Under its rules, the board can enter executive session for personnel and legal matters, but all votes occur in open session.
