Westmont residents have until Friday, Oct. 16, to vote for the village's new water tower in a national contest.

The Village of Westmont announced Tuesday, Oct. 13, that the newly constructed water tower at Westmont High School has been entered in the Tnemec Water Tank of the Year contest. The village is encouraging residents to go online and cast a ballot before the voting window closes.

Tnemec, Inc., which makes protective coatings for water infrastructure, has hosted the annual contest for 20 years. The competition showcases water tank designs completed in the past year and invites the public to help pick a winner, according to the village's announcement. One vote per email address is allowed.

The contest works in two stages. The tank that collects the most public votes wins the People's Choice award. A Tnemec committee then selects 11 additional finalists and considers them alongside the People's Choice winner to name the overall Tank of the Year, Coatings World reported.

The People's Choice winner will be announced Oct. 19. The overall Tank of the Year will be announced Oct. 23.

Westmont's tower is one of dozens of entries from communities that submitted tanks this year. The village's announcement did not include details about the tower's construction cost, capacity or completion date.

To vote, residents can visit the Tank of the Year page on the Tnemec website, find the Westmont entry and cast a ballot before the end of day Friday, Oct. 16.
