Westmont residents can shop neighborhood garage sales across the village in one weekend. The annual Community-Wide Garage Sale kicks off Friday, Aug. 7, and runs through Sunday, Aug. 9, with sales open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
The Westmont Special Events Corporation, a volunteer-driven nonprofit that coordinates more than 75 events a year in the village, organizes the sale to get as many households selling on the same three days as possible. No garage sale permit is required for residents who participate on those dates.
The village said the event gives both sellers and shoppers a concentrated opportunity by getting households to sell on the same weekend, rather than scattering sales across the summer.
Where to find the map
A PDF listing every participating address and a QR code linking to a Google Map of all sale locations are available on the Village of Westmont website. Printed copies are also available at Village Hall, 31 W. Quincy St.
The village announced the sale in late June and said the participant list would be published on the village website and social media platforms the week of the event.
Rules for sellers
Residents who want to set up a sale should keep a few village rules in mind:
- Sales must start no earlier than 8 a.m. and wrap up by 5 p.m.
- Sales cannot run longer than three consecutive days.
- Advertising signs may not be posted on village public property, including the parkway between the sidewalk and the street.
There are no rain dates. The event goes on regardless of weather.
