Woodridge and Westmont both host National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4, bringing residents together with local police and emergency personnel for an evening of free community events.

In Woodridge, the event runs 6–8 p.m. at Duffy's Pavilion, next to the Woodridge ARC at 8201 Janes Ave. The Daily Herald reports activities will include a drone demonstration, bounce house, face painting, and a chance for kids to snap a photo inside a police car.

Westmont's National Night Out runs 5–8 p.m. in the southwest pavilion at Ty Warner Park, on Burr Oak Drive north of Plaza Drive. That event features law enforcement vehicle displays, a bounce house, drone demonstration, refreshments, and information booths staffed by local community organizations.

Both events are free.

Ducks take the lake later this month

Rubber ducks will race down the lazy river at Cypress Cove Family Aquatic Park on Saturday, August 15, when the Rotary Club of Woodridge holds its second annual Back-to-School Duck Dash.

The fundraiser invites families to "adopt" a rubber duck for $10 for a chance to win $1,000, $500, or $250. Winners don't need to be present. Each adoption also earns a half-price admission ticket to Cypress Cove that day.

Free pre-dash activities, including kids' games, run from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the park, 8301 Janes Ave. No purchase is necessary to join the morning fun. The race itself launches at 11 a.m., sending ducks down Cypress Cove's Cajun Creek Lazy River.

The Rotary Club debuted the event in August 2025. Ducks can be "adopted" in advance through the club's registration page.
