Families across Downers Grove, Woodridge and Westmont have a full calendar ahead, with a rubber-duck race, a free library story night and the weekly farmers market all landing in the next 10 days.

Saturday, Aug. 22 — Woodridge Rotary Back-to-School Duck Dash

Two thousand rubber ducks will race down Cajun Creek, a 600-foot lazy river at Cypress Cove Family Aquatic Park, 8301 S. Janes Ave., Woodridge. The Woodridge Rotary Club rescheduled the 2nd annual event from Aug. 15 due to weather.

The dash itself takes about 10 minutes. Ducks drop from a wooden bridge and float to the finish line.

Pre-race games, donuts and drinks run from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the southeast parking lot. Gates open at 10:30 a.m., and the duck drop follows at approximately 11 a.m.

Attending is free. Adopting a duck costs $10, with online sales closing Thursday, Aug. 20, at noon. Cash-only adoptions are available race day until about 10:45 a.m. or until sold out. Prizes run $1,000 for first place, $500 for second and $250 for third. Duck adopters also get 50% off Cypress Cove admission that day with their receipt.

Net proceeds benefit the Woodridge Park District's Recreation Financial Assistance Scholarship Program and Rotary service projects.

Tuesday, Aug. 25 — Family Story Night at Downers Grove Public Library

The Downers Grove Public Library will host a free Family Story Night focused on elephants at 6:30 p.m. The library posted the event on its website Aug. 17. No additional details about age range or activities were listed.

Thursday, Aug. 20 — Westmont CPR & AED class

The Westmont Fire Department is offering a CPR and AED class on Thursday, Aug. 20. The Village of Westmont posted the alert Aug. 4; time and registration details are listed on the village website.

Saturdays, Aug. 22 and Aug. 29 — Downtown Downers Grove Farmers Market

The weekly market continues every Saturday from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Metra station south lot, 5001 Main St. More than 60 vendors sell produce, baked goods, handmade soaps, floral arrangements and coffee. The season runs through Saturday, Oct. 17.
