Downers Grove trick-or-treaters have an official date: Saturday, Oct. 31.
The Village of Downers Grove announced the Halloween schedule on its news page, along with a weekend of downtown events the week before. Window painting, a costume parade and trick-or-treating at participating businesses are all planned for Saturday, Oct. 24, and Sunday, Oct. 25, in the downtown district.
No set hours apply. The Downers Grove Police Department recommends families head out during daylight hours.
The village's existing curfew prohibits anyone under 17 from being on the street after 11 p.m. on weeknights. Oct. 31 falls on a Saturday in 2026.
Downtown weekend: Oct. 24-25
The village listed window painting, a costume parade and business trick-or-treating across the two-day downtown celebration but did not specify which activities fall on which day or publish start times. Residents should check the village website for a detailed schedule before Oct. 24.
In previous years, the downtown Halloween weekend has included window painting at storefronts, a costume contest and parade at Fishel Park, and candy from participating shops. The Downtown Downers Grove Management Corp., the Downers Grove Rotary Club and the Downers Grove Noon Lions Club have helped organize past events. Those details have not been confirmed for 2026.
Village warns against vandalism
The village's announcement included a reminder about property damage. The village stated that vandalism is a crime and that Halloween is not an excuse to damage or destroy someone else's property.
In its 2024 Halloween announcement, the Downers Grove Police Department also advised families to trick-or-treat in groups, wear reflective clothing, carry flashlights after dark and stay on sidewalks. The 2026 announcement did not repeat the full list.
