Four seats on the Downers Grove Village Council are up for grabs in April 2027, and residents who want their name on the ballot can start the process next week.
The Village announced Monday, July 21, 2026, that candidate packets for the Tuesday, April 6, 2027, Consolidated Election are available beginning Tuesday, July 28, at the Village Clerk's office on the second floor of the Civic Center, 850 Curtiss St. The race will fill the mayor's seat and three commissioner positions.
The mayor's seat was not on the 2025 ballot, making this the first mayoral race since 2023.
What candidates need to know
Each candidate must collect at least 94 valid signatures on a nominating petition. That number equals 1 percent of the total votes cast for mayor in the last mayoral election, according to the Village's press release.
The threshold has shifted slightly across recent cycles: 88 signatures were required in 2023, 95 in 2025, and 94 for 2027. The variation reflects turnout changes in the preceding mayoral race.
Completed Statements of Candidacy and nominating petitions must be filed with the Village Clerk between Monday, October 19, and Friday, October 23, 2026. The Civic Center accepts filings Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Primary trigger
If more than four people file for mayor, or more than 12 file for commissioner, the DuPage County Election Commission will hold a primary on Tuesday, February 23, 2027, per the county's official election calendar.
Who's in now
Mayor Bob Barnett holds the mayor's seat. Commissioners Greg Hosé and Danny Glover, both sworn in May 4, 2021, were recognized as outgoing members at the Tuesday, April 15, 2025, Village Council meeting. A third commissioner seat is also on the 2027 ballot. The Village Council consists of the mayor and six commissioners, all elected at-large.
No candidates have publicly announced for the 2027 race as of Tuesday, July 22, 2026.
How to get involved
Packets are available starting Tuesday, July 28, at the Civic Center, 850 Curtiss St., second floor. The Village advises prospective candidates to consult their own attorney on election-law questions. The DuPage County Election Commission can be reached at 630-407-5600.
The filing window closes Friday, October 23, 2026, at 4:30 p.m.
