Neighbors can meet the artists behind a monthlong exhibit at the Downers Grove Public Library when the Downers Grove Artists' Guild holds a free reception Sunday, Aug. 16, from 2 to 4 p.m.

The guild's member show has been on display at the library, 1050 Curtiss St., since July 29 and runs through Sept. 2. The Aug. 16 reception is the public's chance to talk with the artists whose work is on display.

Guild member Judy Fan, whose paintings are part of the exhibit, shared her excitement on Instagram on Aug. 7.

"So thrilled to have my paintings hanging in two amazing local gallery shows this month! … Downers Grove Public Library — On display from 7/29/26 - 9/2/26 (Artist reception: 8/16/26 2-4pm)"

The guild has deep roots at this address. In 1941, an open art exhibition at the Downers Grove Public Library inspired local artist Tressa Emerson Benson to organize what became the Downers Grove Artists' Guild, which launched with just 10 members. Eighty-five years later, the nonprofit includes students, award-winning artists working in multiple disciplines, aspiring creators and patrons of the arts, according to the guild's website.

The organization is led by president Mary Beth Purse, with Eva Holy chairing the exhibitions committee. Members regularly show work at venues across the area, including a current exhibit at the Indian Prairie Public Library and a recent Woodridge Public Library show where Carol Weber took first place and Judy Fan earned second, according to the guild's exhibits page.

No registration is required for Sunday's reception.

Admission is free.
