Downers Grove, Woodridge, and Westmont veterans can knock out a REAL ID appointment, connect with Hines VA Hospital staff, and browse more than 60 service organizations in a single morning at the annual DuPage County Veterans Resource Fair on Tuesday, Aug. 25.
The free event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the first-floor auditorium of the JTK Administration Building, 421 N. County Farm Road in Wheaton. It is open to the public, though it is geared toward veterans and their families. The Village of Westmont posted its own notice on Wednesday, July 29, directing local veterans to the event.
The Veterans Assistance Commission of DuPage County and the DuPage County Recorder's Office are co-hosting the fair, according to county announcements.
What's available
Participating organizations include the DuPage County Health Department, Hines VA Hospital, and the Illinois Secretary of State's mobile DMV unit. Veterans and active-duty military can also pick up refreshments, freebies, and raffle prizes.
The headline draw is the on-site REAL ID service. The Secretary of State will operate a mobile DMV at the fair, but appointments are required and slots are limited.

How to book a REAL ID appointment
Veterans who want a REAL ID or REAL ID-compliant driver's license at the fair should email [email protected] or [email protected]. They can also call (630) 407-5655.
Steve Fixler is the superintendent of the Veterans Assistance Commission, which provides temporary financial assistance to eligible veterans and their families and helps file federal VA claims. The commission is permanently housed in the same JTK Administration Building where the fair will take place.
The VAC's regular services cover mortgage and rent help, utilities, emergency medical prescriptions, VA medical transportation, burial expenses, and food assistance, among other needs. Veterans who cannot attend the fair can reach the commission year-round at (630) 407-5655 or [email protected].
