Downers Grove parents and community members have until Friday, Oct. 2, to apply for a seat on one of seven District 58 advisory groups that help shape curriculum, spending and school policy.
Superintendent Kevin Russell announced the openings Tuesday, Sept. 22, in a post on the district's website. The call covers three district-wide councils and four Board of Education committees for the 2026-27 school year. Russell encouraged parents and community members to apply, saying their input helps shape district decisions.
The three councils are:
- Superintendent's Community Advisory Council, open to parents and guardians
- Connection and Communication Council, open to parents, guardians and staff
- Curriculum Council, primarily staff with opportunities for parent participation
The four board committees seeking parents, guardians, staff and community members are:
- Financial Advisory Committee
- Legislative Committee
- Policy Committee
- District Leadership Team
District 58 serves about 5,000 students in preschool through eighth grade across 11 elementary schools and two middle schools. All seven groups draw from that community.
Space may be limited. The district said it will select members with the goal of balanced representation across schools and stakeholder groups but did not specify how many seats are open on each council or committee. A linked document with additional details about each group's role and meeting schedule was not publicly accessible as of Wednesday, Sept. 23.
Applicants who are not selected can still get involved through their local PTA, the district noted.
To apply, residents must complete the Committee Interest Form linked from the district's announcement page by Friday, Oct. 2. The district said it will notify applicants of their status by Friday, Oct. 9.
